Unfortunately, we are not able to financially compensate your presence nor will we be able to cover the fees for your accommodation. However, we promise you that you will return rich with unforgettable memories and that we will find you the cheapest possible housing. We have over 60 local volunteers that are happy to welcome you in their home for just a nominal fee to cover their additional expenses.
Unlike many other NGO's we do not ask our volunteers to pay a placement fee because we believe that your willingness to donate your precious time is already very generous.
We work with over 60 local volunteers that are more than happy to welcome you in their homes for just a nominal fee to cover their additional expenses. Nepal is quite cheap and accommodation should not cost more than 100$ a month when staying with a local family. Our families are totally aware of the sanitary needs of our international volunteers and will prepare food accordingly. Please bear in mind, that Nepalese families do not have the same understanding of " privacy " as Westerners do. Even though, our " home stay " families are sensitive towards Western concepts, it is you that is coming to Nepal to learn more about OUR culture ;-). If you value privacy you may also consider staying at a guesthouse. We have contacts to different guesthouses around the area that happily welcome our foreign volunteers. Staying at a guesthouse will increase your living costs quite a bit. You should count with probably up to 500$. As we want our volunteers to learn as much as possible about our culture and customs we recommend you to stay with a local family!
Please understand that we generally do not accept applications from volunteers who are not willing to spend at least one month here in Nepal. However, exceptions will be made especially for healthcare professionals and people who would like to teach special skills to our community.
We recommend our volunteers, who'll spend more than 1 month, to take some basic Nepali language courses. Just let us know to what extent you would like to study Nepalese and we'll make the appropriate arrangements for you.

By buying our high quality fashion items you will directly support the women involved in our HIPKNIT project. In order for the women to be eligible for participation, they have to attend the free basic literacy programm organized by SHEWD and commit themselves to sending their children to school. The women will receive a well above average salary and remaining profits will directly be reinvested into expanding the HIPKNIT project, as well as, other community projects from which the women will profit as well.
